How can I stick to a healthy diet?

Cookie Diet Blog 1 Comment »

I’m about 5’3” and weight approx 120lbs. It’s not necessarily my weight that i’m concerned about, but my body shape. I’m fine with the way my stomach looks, but my thighs are really getting to me. I exercise fairly often but junk food really gets to me. I feel as though I rarely eat breakfast, lunch, OR dinner. All I eat is snacks pretty much all day long and most of the time they’re not very healthy. (chips, cookies, etc.) Out of pure luck, I hate soda so I usually drink green tea or water.

Help! Whenever I try to stick to a healthy diet I always come up with an excuse to cheat!?

I’ll convince myself its okay with “I’ve had a really bad day, I deserve some cookies.” Or I tell myself that I’ll make up for it later, “lf I take a nice long walk tonight then I can have an extra helping of (chips… sweets… anthing that should be eaten in moderation).” And then when it comes time to go for my evening walk there is often an excuse for that too. “It looks like it may rain.” or “Oops, I have no work out clothes clean.” Please help me dump my excuses!

I want to make my boyfriend goodies for his birthday, but he’s on a diet?

I wanted to make him cupcakes, cookies, or a cake; however, he’s trying to lose an unnecessary 10LBS, and he’s VERY committed.

What is something sweet, yummy, dessert-like that I could make him, and it won’t ruin his “diet.”

Was the Cookie Monster banned from Sesame Street, fired, or what’s up with that?

I suppose he’s seen as a bad influence now. Since cookies are such an unhealthy diet choice which could lead to childhood diabetes, God forbid we should let our children watch a puppet dumping them down his throat by the boxful. Maybe his habit’s seen as an addiction or OCD. Whatever…

So they come up with “Elmo,” a little wimpy substitute version who eats his vegetables. What a putz.

No wonder we live in such a violent society nowadays.

Tips for winning the battle and losing the weight:

Treat yourself to one tasty low-calorie treat each week. Make it a special day such as every Friday, treat yourself to a low-calorie treat that you crave but don’t dare normally eat while on a diet.

Choose water as your beverage of choice at meals because it is amazing how many calories in soda (245 a day) when you are not watching what you drink. In a year of drinking soda you can easily put on 25 pounds.

When you start your diet, carry around a pocket-sized notebook for an entire week recording every food that you put into your mouth and every drink. Calculate all the calories that you have consumed that week and you might be surprised at just how many calories you really take in every week. Now do the same thing but before you start the next week’s diary, know how many calories you are suppose to eat. If you know how many calories you are supposed to eat you will be more careful about what you put into your mouth. Studies have shown that if you record everything you put into your mouth you are likely to eat 15% less.

If you find it difficult to be physically active try putting a pedometer on your belt, and have a goal of 5,000 steps each day.

Eat 5 or 6 smaller meals each day instead of 3 large meals. Space these meals about 4 to 5 hours apart.

Walk for at least 45 minutes each day. Take the dog for a walk. Walk around the park with a good friend. If you can walk briskly for 45 minutes a day in a year you will have lost 30 pounds!

How Do I Know Which Diet to Follow?

Cookie Diet Blog Comments Off

Today, there are more diets available on the market than any other point in time. It seems that everywhere you look there is a new pill, book, plan, or diet professional touting the many benefits of their method, and promising all kinds of tremendous results, in no time at all, with very little effort on your part. The overwhelming amount of information coming at you can make it quite difficult to select a safe and effective diet. To help you wade through these confusing dieting waters, below are a few diet selection guidelines.

The key to choosing a successful diet plan is to pick one that will work for you. Many dieters choose a diet because they know someone that had good results with a plan, or because they have heard good things about it. Your dieting success is not guaranteed just because your next door neighbor went on a diet and lost a ton of weight. You should select a plan that will help you work toward your personal goals, one that will work well for you, and one that you can easily stick to daily. Choosing a diet just because someone else tried it, usually ends in failure. Make sure you pick a plan that allows you to eat foods you actually enjoy, and one that does not keep you from eating entire groups of food. You greatly increase your chances of success when you can easily incorporate the diet into your daily schedule, we are all strapped for time, and if a diet forces you to spend hours preparing food every day, then you won’t be able to stick to it long-term.

Selecting a diet that encourages breaks every couple of weeks can also be quite beneficial. This break will give you the opportunity to indulge some of your cravings, and it will give you something to look forward to during the time you are sticking to a more strict diet. Even though you get a bit of break, you should not go crazy and eat anything you want excessively. You need to have the willpower to eat a bit of the foods you crave, without ruining your diet by going on an all out binge on them.

You should always seek the advice of a dietician or physician before jumping in to a new diet. Use care when selecting your diet, and research the options completely, you want to make sure the diet you choose will promote a healthy lifestyle, incorporate a bit of exercise, and create changes that you can stick with for the long term.
