Can You Lose Weight on the Cookie Diet?
Cookie Diet Blog March 10th, 2010
Last summer, my girlfriend told me about a diet she had heard of called the Cookie Diet. She knew I wrote diet related articles and wanted to know what I thought. It turns out that Cookie Diets are not as much fun as they sound. Cookie Diets (there are a number of variations) are better known as food replacement diets such as slimfast and lipotrim. The term “cookie diet” refers to a group of low calorie diets involving the consumption of appetite suppressant cookies. There are a number of different cookie diets currently on the market including the Hollywood Cookie Diet and Dr. Siegals Cookie Diet. Each plan relies on specially formulated cookies to provide the primary source of your daily nutrition. The diets are premised on the notion that an easy diet will be the most successful diet and that cookies are easy, convenient and portable.
Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet is probably the best known of all cookie diets. In 1975, Dr. Siegal introduced his patients in South Florida to the first cookie diet. He called it “The Cookie Diet” or “Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet”. The plan required his patients to consume six cookies throughout the day in conjunction with a dinner consisting of chicken or fish and vegetables. The total daily caloric intake on his diet is a mere 840 calories. Over time he added shakes and soups to his plan. Exercise is allegedly not required on this program. The diet requires medical supervision and an initial doctor consultation due to the low caloric intake.
I think people may have bought the “no exercise required” pitch in 1975. However, I recommend that no one spend a dime of their money on a diet regime unless they are prepared to exercise and accept that moderate exercise is compulsory to safe and healthy weight loss. That said, a person can’t be expected to exercise if they are only allowed to consume 840 calories per day!
