Has anyone ever cut back/taken sugar completely out of their diet?
Cookie Diet Blog June 18th, 2010
I have a major sweet tooth. If I could bake cupcakes everyday and eat them, I would. And sometimes I do!! I have always loved sweets, so it is hard for me to say no to cookies, cakes, chocolate, etc. If it is sweet, I will eat it. I have finally realized this is unhealthy, and I need to cut back somehow, but am not sure how to do it. Any ideas???

good luck. my cholesterol and sugar levels are both high, so I am planning to cut sugar out of my diet. dont bake, and dont buy them , if they arent in the house, it will be easier to cut them out. at this point, I need to cut them out, so I am planning on no sweets. sugar is in cereals, etc. so look at the grams on the label.
I haven’t eaten white sugar or white bread for over 20 years. Substitute dried or fresh fruit for the “cupcake” attacks you get. your body will soon adjust and before you know it when you try to eat a no-no it will be too sweet and repulsive to you.
Check ingredients on all labels and only eat things using honey, brown rice syrup , barley malt. Basically anything in the health food section. Steer clear of artificial sweeteners.
Good luck
Figure out how many sweet things you eat, and try and replace half of them with fruits, which have vitamins, fibre and far fewer calories
If you develop diabetes it will sure slow you down. That is what happened to me. I have been type II (not insulin dependent) for a number of years. I currently eat almost no sugar except what is found in processed foods.
Back off the sugar, turn it into a real treat. Diet sodas are sugar free and can have reasonably good flavor. Mrs. Butterworth’s sugar free pancake syrup is unbelievably good. I eat a fair amount of fruit. I have to be careful because the sugar that makes fruit sweet is still sugar. It just isn’t refined. Splenda is a GREAT sugar substitute and you can cook or bake with it. Find a grocery store with an area set aside for diabetics. We have some really good stuff and it seems to be getting better every day.
If you have any specific questions I accept email at my profile. Please contact me. If you start living like you have diabetes you probably won’t get it but if you don’t treat yourself right the odds are definitely stacked against you.
I have, I drink diet soda now, or zero calorie sodas. Whenever I get a craving, I’ll eat a piece of dark chocolate, which in addiction to getting rid of the craving, is good for you, at least better than milk chocolate. Theres also things like sugar free pudding, 100 calorie packs and even 100 calorie cups of ice cream that I get because I can’t live without it!
