If you’re working out that much, you’re problem is probably that you need to eat more. Sounds crazy right? Well it isn’t! You should add some protein to your 12pm snack and some healthy carbs to your 4pm snack.
If you’re waking up right before your 10am workout, that’s fine to eat breakfast after. BUT – if you’re waking up at, say, 7:30 – 8:30am, you’re screwing over your metabolism! It’s so important to eat breakfast first thing in the morning (which you probably already know). Think of how much more you’ll get out of a workout if your metabolism is already revved from the moment you wake up!
Besides that…
Make sure you eat 4 – 6 balanced meals a day. Balanced meaning that 30% comes from protein, 30% from healthy carbohydrates, and 20% from healthy fat (yes, fat!)
Protein is healthiest when it’s from fish, poultry, low/non-fat dairy products, and lean meats.
Carbohydrates should be from fruits, veggies, and whole grain breads (and sourdough), rice and pasta.
Fats should be polyunsaturated (your omega 3, 6, and 9’s). These are typically found in nuts, seeds, olive and canola oils, and fish. Saturated fats are found in animal products and are OK so long as you don’t overdo it (hence eating “lean” meats). Anything with “trans” fat is badddd! This causes bad cholesterol – plaque – to be stored in your blood and leads to heart diseases.
Eating 4 – 6 meals may sound like a lot of food, but when reducing your portions (by eating smaller amounts more often throughout the day) this actually steadies your blood sugar, making you feel less hungry and more energized throughout the day!
It’s worth mentioning too that it boosts your metabolism (the rate your body uses energy) – and so, as a result you could loose excess fat since you’ll be giving your body just enough of what it needs at that particular time of the day. If it needs more energy before your next meal, it’ll turn to burning fat.
Hope this helped!
