Regrettably fad diets can be very seductive, the promise of losing weight by effortlessly eating two eggs a day or following a formula does make them sound so good. Cool!  When you hear about one of these fast weight loss fad diets it’s only natural to want to do it. It’s very tempting to try the new fad especially if the celebs are having great triumphs with it.

Let’s look and see if these fads actually work.

First let’s look at why they don’t work.

In order to lose weight through a proven method, there are usually a lot of instructions in precisely what you have to do. The one universal commonality among these fad diets is that they all have a ‘gimmick’.

Let’s take the new fad, the ‘banana diet’. The fact that this diet instructed people to just eat bananas for breakfast is its gimmick. Now there’s nothing wrong with eating fruit for breakfast, but for many people it’s just not ample enough for the morning meal. Of course, there’s also many people who would get very sick of bananas after having them every day for a week or two!

All these fads don’t work because their gimmick means crash dieting which seriously restricts the calorie intake. This means that the metabolism can greatly slow meaning the loss of muscle rather than fat.

Sadly these diets are more interested in using a gimmick to grab the persons focus than giving actual structure and advice and that’s why they don’t work. People have to know that weight loss and/or body transformation is not an simple thing to do, but neither does it need to be complicated. If you look at the fad diets it makes it out to be simple, unfortunately almost all of the the time the results are only short-term.

If we know they don’t work so why do they survive?

Selling a product is the main reason why fad diets exist. Sadly the people who put together these diets only do it as it makes a lot of money for them and it’s really quite an easy thing to do.

The fact that it seems easy to follow one of these diets is what appeals to the vast majority of those who are needing to lose weight. We lie to ourselves and think that if we follow a simple formula we will lose the weight.  It’s just a way of evading doing something hard. Getting the best results involves facing the fact that losing weight is hard and don’t be taken in by the gimmicky fad diets.
